Impact Type: Manufacturing Type for Typewriters in Switzerland, 1941-1997 (Triest Verlag, €29) is beautiful. Edited and designed by Sophie Wietlisbach, with contributions from Roland Früh and Davide Fornari, the book’s production values are a delight, and its page design, with single-colour chapter dividers, well reproduced images and sharp typography, is a joy. One of the best things about the book is that it exists at all. In a world where sales, profit and marketability are the rule, a book like this, a niche market within a niche market, is a rare treat indeed …
