Czech from scratch

Life Happiness Surprise

Edited by Alan Zar&uacute;ba<br>Torst

Life Happiness Surprise, a bilingual monograph from the Prague-based Studio Najbrt, boasts a silvery scratchcard-style cover – little bits come off on your hands. Fortunately the book is packed with impressive projects from the busy Czech studio: book designs, exhibition work, posters and comedy – founder Aleš Najbrt (see Eye no. 17 vol. 5) moonlights as a stand-up. This performance talent must have rubbed off on his colleagues – there’s a live-wire exuberance to the studio’s best work. Even their identity for Prague, with the city’s name in four languages, in a red square, hides a laugh.
