Since October 2006, the Dutch daily newspaper De Volkskrant has published a regular ‘column’ called Gorilla, a graphic response to the news of the day. This front-page feature, which won the jury prize of the inaugural European Design Awards (EDA) in Athens in May, is a collaboration between Lesley Moore, Herman van Bostelen and Amsterdam design practice De Designpolitie (www.designpolitie.nl).
Subjects tackled range from international politics to local scandals, from culture to social comment. The best Gorilla panels – simply realised, colourful, typographically inventive and edgy – pack the graphic punch of miniature posters.
