Faust legend

Letter from John Hubbard

I find myself writing to you for the first time to correct a possible misunderstanding in a caption for David Womack’s article about Jurg Lehni’s Scriptographer, namely the Faust script (Eye no. 60 vol. 15, pp.60-64).

The lettering referred to was designed for the cover of their 1986 album, Return of a Legend: Munich & Elsewhere. It is not the original artwork for The Faust Tapes (the cover of which was covered with reviews of previous albums). The Return of a Legend artwork was subsequently re-used for the cd re-issue of The Faust Tapes, so the caption is not wrong, so much as incomplete. The members of Faust will be pleased to learn of this influence, seeing as each of their albums covers is strikingly original and memorable in a sea of dross.

Keep up the good work!
